My Whippet Misty will eat anything. However as I’ve discussed before in my post about foods Whippets must avoid, it’s not good to let your dog eat foods meant for humans and cake is definitely one to watch. Having said this you can make your Whippet a cake that they CAN eat. In this post I’m listing 5 sweet and healthy dog cake recipes your Whippet will adore.
The intention is to give you some ideas to make your Whippet something that:
- Is healthy.
- Uses ingredients that won’t cause harm.
- Is homemade.
It’s great to give your dog a treat, but you do of course need to make sure the treats you’re giving don’t turn your Whippet into a Whoppet and that you don’t end up with dog health problems as a result.

At the same time, I also understand it’s difficult to find time to bake things on top of all the other stuff dog owners have to do.
So as well as being healthy dog cake recipes, I also want them to be easy so you can make them if you don’t have that much available time.
What follows then are 5 easy and healthy recipes for dog cake that tick all the boxes for you and your best friend!
A Note On Cake Ingredients To Avoid
You must remember that many cakes we humans eat contain ingredients that can be VERY dangerous to all dogs. Read my list of common foods that Whippets should never eat to get some idea.
I speak from experience here, which I explain in detail in this post that discusses what happened when my Whippet ate raisins. Hence, you won’t find any raisins in any of these dog cake recipes!
It’s important to remember too that many common baking ingredients can also cause sickness or even be life-threatening if consumed by your dog.
One such ingredient is baking soda… a staple ingredient used in baking human cakes. While small amounts in a baked cake will likely not cause a problem, large quantities of powdered baking soda can be extremely dangerous for your dog.
None of the following healthy dog cake recipes include baking soda.

Carob & Greek Yoghurt Dog Cake
Although chocolate can be extremely dangerous for dogs (especially dark chocolate), dogs love its flavour. I know that my Whippet Misty would snaffle an entire bar if she could get her paws on one!
Since chocolate is a food Whippets should avoid at all times, we are always careful to keep it well away from her.
This dog cake recipe delivers the flavour of chocolate that dogs seem to love so much without the risks associated with real chocolate. It uses carob in place of chocolate and as a result it’s a healthy alternative given carob is nutrient rich in vitamins A, B and D. Carob also contains calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium and protein.

- 2 tablespoons of carob powder
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/3 cup of melted coconut oil
- 1/3 cup of plain Greek yoghurt
Frosting Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt

- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Mix together the dry ingredients of almond flour, carob powder and baking powder in a medium sized bowl.
- Mix and whisk the egg, melted coconut oil and 1/3 cup of Greek yogurt in a separate bowl.
- Add the dry and wet ingredients together and stir to form an evenly mixed batter.
- Lightly grease a small to medium non-stick baking pan and add the batter into it.
- Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown in colour then remove from the oven and set it aside to cool.
